Hong Kong: For the Birds

Jan. 11-13, HONG KONG

My favorite part of Hong Kong was this awesome spot called the Edward Youde Aviary. Beautiful birds roam free in a 6-story high netted off area with 2-story high elevated walkways for people. In a city with so much hustle, finding an oasis like this was a treat.

We also took a tram up to the highest part of Hong Kong, the famous Peak. We took a pleasant 2k walk around the top and it was splendid.















On our last day in Hong Kong, we made what we later judged to be a poor decision - lugging our packs to see the Bird Market on the opposite side of Hong Kong. (Hong Kong was originally just one island, but the British made a grab for territory on mainland China, now known as Kowloon.) We took three different forms of transit plus a very sweaty walk to see what ended up being the depressing number of birds, exotic and otherwise, crammed into tiny cages.
